Behind us is an intensive period of technical and design consultations regarding the newly built installation at our regular customer. Joint actions translated into the execution of an order for the delivery of a complex gas detection system, which we finally launched in recent weeks. The equipment manufactured by Atest Gaz was installed in a newly built 200 m long chimney on the refinery premises.
In order to increase the safety of the installation, the investor decided to use a comprehensive solution, i.e. the Sigma Gas system designed to monitor the quality of the atmosphere inside the chimney. SmArtGas 4, ReAct 4 gas detectors, two-color LTT2 signaling devices with GasOK function and a total of several control units were installed to ensure system redundancy. Thanks to the comprehensive approach, all the additional benefits of using the Sigma Gas system were obtained, e.g. non-invasive wireless calibration and communication of events at the gas detectors installation site using built-in FLED signaling. Gas detectors analyze the atmosphere for the presence of exhaust fumes, which may come from the flue pipe if it is unsealed. Their presence is detected by monitoring the concentrations of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen and temperature at several levels inside the chimney, reaching up to 200m.
An additional and innovative application in the Sigma Gas system was the integration of Atest Gaz devices with temperature sensors, which were also responsible for monitoring the tightness, as an increase in the temperature in the chimney may mean that hot flue gases have escaped into the space where people are present.
The whole thing is topped with a dedicated panel with the SCADA application, which is responsible for the visualization of the work of all several systems and informs the services about the level of security on an ongoing basis.
